Mount Kisco Child Care Center Learns Gardening Tips from Local IBMers
Mount Kisco, NY – (July 11, 2011) – Mount Kisco Child Care Center partnered with local IBM employees and retirees on June 15 as part of IBM's Celebration of Service program. The program, designed for employees, retirees and business partners, was put in place to lend time and support to local community organizations during the company's Centennial year.
Local IBMers assisted MKCCC children as part of the Center's garden-to-table nutrition program, Feed Me Fresh. The Center boasts a 1,000 sq. ft organic garden where the children plant and tend to a variety of seasonal goods. Volunteers assisted the children with all gardening needs, including an after school lesson about excel spreadsheets to better organize their harvest.
"It's nice to see business men and women getting involved in their communities," said Dottie Jordan, Executive Director at MKCCC. "They have shown such an interest in our organization and the children have certainly benefited."
June 15 was the focal point of the year-long effort by IBM as it was the final day of IBM's first 100 years. To mark the occasion, hundreds of thousands of IBMers, retirees and partners participated in volunteer projects worldwide.
"This is an excellent way to connect regional business men and women to local community organizations," said Steven Wysmuller, IBM employee, volunteer, and Co-President of the Board of Directors of MKCCC. "It's been a wonderful experience integrating our knowledge and expertise into lessons for children at the Center."
