What are the hours of operation?
Mt. Kisco Child Care Center is open from 7:00 am-6:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
We do not offer extended hours.
Is the Center licensed?
The Center is licensed by New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
This licensed is renewed every two years.
Are meals provided?
Children are offered breakfast, a hot lunch and a snack.
All food is prepared in our Feed Me Fresh Kitchen on site.
Every effort is made to provide local, organic, natural and healthy foods.
In conjunction with our Food Service there is an inclusive nutrition program that focuses on education in the classrooms and an opportunity to plant and harvest food.
What are the staff to child ratios?
- Infant program, 3mos. - 18 mos. -- 3 teachers with 8 children
- Toddler program, 18 mos.- 3 yrs. -- 3 teachers with 10 children
- Preschool program, 3yrs. - 5 yr 3 -- teachers with 16 children
- After school program, kdgn - 5th gr. -- 5 teachers with 45 children
What are the staff qualifications?
Each classroom has one lead teacher and 2 assistants. The lead teachers are required to have an Associate's degree in education at a minimum. Many of our teachers have Bachelor's degrees in education. Assistant teachers must have a high school diploma with 3 years experience in the early education field.
All Staff is required to have 30 hrs of training in each licensing period. This includes recognizing child abuse/ First Aid and CPR and health and safety training. One teacher in each room is MAT trained and can administer medication.
Do children nap or rest during the day?
Children nap during the day generally between 1pm and 3pm. Children are encouraged to rest but not forced to sleep. Children who do not nap are given the opportunity to look at books or engage in quiet activities.
Does the Center have a planned curriculum?
The Center uses The Creative Curriculum which is a child initiated developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children.
- The focus of the toddler curriculum is to develop self-help skills/language acquisition/ and socialization
- The preschool program focuses on socialization, problem solving and kindergarten readiness skills.
- The school age program - Although we are committed to helping children to complete homework, we also recognize the child's need to relax, play and exercise and socialize.
What is the JEWEL Program?
Mount Kisco Child Care Center is an Intergenerational Shared Site Facility that shares space with My Second Home, an adult day program of Family Services of Westchester, Inc.
The JEWEL program is an intergenerational program where children and older adults spend time together throughout the day. Staff from both MKCCC and MSH supervised all activities.
